Building healthy and safe environment is an important area of work for SADHANA. Presently, the organisation focuses on environmental education and awareness. As a responsible organisation, SADHANA has always followed the use of recyclable and organic products that keeps our surroundings  clean.

Sadhana creates lot of awareness on afforestation  in its working area. It has made special efforts in the schools to ensure that the schools are “Greener and Cleaner” with the support and co-operation of School Development Management Committees and the villagers.

Water is a vital part of the environment and harnesses many forms of life including human beings. SADHANA has formed Farmers’ Groups to conserve water, soil and environment. Watershed projects have helped the farmers to increase the groundwater level, reduce soil erosion and increase crop cultivation areas. Special lake conservation and protection campaigns are undertaken in this perspective.

“Safe drinking water and adequate sanitation are crucial for poverty reduction, crucial for sustainable development, and crucial for achieving any and every one of the Millennium Development Goals”. (Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General).

According to the latest estimates of the WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme for Water Supply and Sanitation (JMP, 2013), released in early 2013 (collected in 2011), 36 percent of the world’s population i.e., 2.5 billion people lack improved sanitation facilities, and 768 million people still use unsafe drinking water sources. Inadequate access to safe water and sanitation services, coupled with poor hygiene practices, kills and sickens thousands of children every day, and leads to impoverishment and diminished opportunities for furthermore children. In this backdrop, SADHANA has taken up water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programmes in its operational areas. Special drives in schools are taken up regularly to increase the understanding of using safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene.

Sadhana aims to bring about a positive behavior change in the community in water and sanitation practice. The organization is making efforts for safe drinking water and  trying in reduction  of water-borne diseases. School children are used to create demand for toilets through formation of school cabinets in schools. Women members of group are motivated towards construction and proper utilization of individual toilet. The organization facilitates construction of public toilets for households through Gram Panchayath.

Both Mysore and Chamarajanagar Districts are nestled with rich wildlife and biodiversity hot spots. Awareness campaigns are conducted in forest fringe areas on conservation and protection of wildlife. Many a times, people dwelling in interior locations in the forest do not have access for electricity and energy. Their energy needs are met through installation of Astra and Saral Chulas which are promoted through women self help groups.

Children and Self Help Group members are periodically educated on the importance of solid waste disposal by separating degradable and non-degradable waste at source. Self Help Group members are educated on creating wealth from waste individually and collectively through promotion of common compost yard.

Educate the public on effective solid waste disposal by separating the degradable and non-degradable waste at source. Convert the degradable waste to wealth through individual or common compost yard.

SADHANA is the brainchild of inexhaustible perseverance of a strong team of young and dynamic professionals from Social Work background, who occupy the key positions of management and administrative positions. Established in November 2001.
